S.U.R.E. Award

posted Oct 20, 2015, 12:09 PM by Evan Potter

Faith Lutheran recently received an award from S.U.R.E. (Sarasota United for Responsibility and Equity). Our award was for meeting and exceeding our investments to S.U.R.E. for this year! Congratulations!

Also, did you know because of S.U.R.E., the city of Sarasota has instituted a Civil Citation Program for youth??? Local law enforcement can now divert youth to community-based programs without giving them criminal records.

This is HUGE and will impact many, many lives. Faith Lutheran Church is proud to be a support of this incredible organization!

Welcome, Andrea!

Green Business Write-Up!

We were lucky enough to make it into the latest Green Partnership Newsletter! Thank you, Sarasota County!

Here is our write-up!

Faith Lutheran Church

"As a green partner, Faith Lutheran Church is taking steps to have a positive impact. The first of these steps was to create an active green team that meets to discuss programs and projects throughout the church.  These projects include having an Earth Day coffee hour, showing Earthbound videos and going electronic with their newsletters - that include a green tip of the week.  The church has an active recycling program that includes battery collection.  The staff uses reusable kitchen wares, coffee mugs and compostable coffee cups are provided for members and guests.

By using their comprehensive energy audit, Faith Lutheran has established a series of energy reduction measures.  To increase enegy efficiency, the building uses T-8 electronic ballasts, lighting control sensors and was designed to use increased natural lighting. The staff ensures that lights are turned off in unused sections of the church buildings, computer monitors are shut down when not in use and the sunshades are down in classroom areas.  Because of these measures, during their energy audit it was noted that their building is one of the most efficient facilities based on kW usage comparisons."

Faith's 50th Anniversary!

posted May 18, 2015, 8:59 AM by Evan Potter   [ updated Aug 13, 2017, 7:01 AM by Web Master ]

Faith's 50th Anniversary is fast approaching!

Quick History:
At the founding in 1966, Faith Lutheran was led by Reverend Don Himmelman. Early meetings were held in the Lions Club. The congregation soon raised the funds to buy the land on which the church is currently situated.
The original sanctuary, which is now the Fellowship Hall, was built in 1968. It seated 170 people. By 1972, the early church had outgrown their sanctuary and built the current sanctuary. Fellowship Hall became a gathering place for meetings and social functions. Later, the kitchen was built and classroom building were added.
A groundbreaking was held in 2008 to begin construction what is now the community center.

Help us continue to grow Faith Lutheran! We are kicking off a year-long anniversary celebration beginning in January, 2016. Now is the time to start planning!

Please call the church office if you would like to lead or be a part of one of our committees. (941)-924-4664 We need to plan for food, worship, theme, etc. This is a great time to get involved, and we are excited to see what the year brings!
