The Serving Ministry
Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 01:16PM Lutheran World Relief
Faith completed collection and distribution for Lutheran World Relief in February. But it’s already time to start up again! We can be aware of the need for specific items and watch for clearance sales as the seasons change:
- Men’s and children’s clothing (no women’s clothing please)
- Sweaters for children & adults (men & women)
- Health kits—soap, towels, toothbrushes, comb, etc.
- Sewing Kits-material, sewing needles, buttons, thread, etc.
- School kits-paper, crayons, scissors, etc.
The "kits" need specific items only, which are on printed lists available in the Fellowship Hall. When collection takes place throughout the year, we increase our LWR shipment for 2007! If each family brings just one of each type kit we could easily beat last year’s totals! Join us in this ministry, you will feel wonderful about sharing.
LOMF 2006-2007 Adult Programs
Think "camping" at Luther Springs is only for the young? Well, you should know that Luther Springs, located near Ocala, FL has hotel type rooms, with all the comforts of home. (read: it’s not your mother’s tentcamping.)
If you need some retreat and regroup time, consider an adult program for 2006-2007. Some examples are the "God’s Spa" retreat for women only. Enjoy time away from laundry, cooking and careers. Find pampering, devotions, facials, reading, etc. (Oct. 6-8)
The LOMF program also sponsors international tours, this year to Mexico and also "Lutherlands." If you like quilting, or river rafting, LOMF has a program for you. There is also a program this year addressing the "spiritual journey of the aging." Telephone year-round (813)-801-9600 or www.lomfla.org for a brochure or date information.
Fair Trade Coffees - Located in the Fellowship Hall!
Through Fair Trade, farmers earn a fair price for their products, have access to affordable credit and gain a long-term trading partner they can trust – all elements missing in the conventional coffee market. With your support, farming communities are able to invest in education, health care and environmentally sustainable farming techniques.
New item!!! Coffee Pillow Packs are on a trial offering at $1 each. They are great for keeping your coffee fresh and for travel too!
55 ALIVE the AARP Driving Class
What is it??? A program sponsored by AARP nationwide to refresh the driving habits of older drivers. It is a 2- day, 8 hour class seminar (4 hours each morning) given here at Faith Lutheran. Over 6 million seniors have taken this course. Upon completion, a certificate is given which, when sent to the individual's insurance company, results in a 3-year policy charge savings. The cost of the course is $10. Driving Classes for 55 ALIVE meet the 3rd Tuesday & Wednesday of each month at 9 am at Faith (in Fellowship Hall.)
Call Mike Gates in advance for reservations at 924-5240.
